Casa Lago Atitlan
This proposal for a private home is sited on a extreme slope with clear views on to the volcanoes that ring Lake Atitlan. The 8,750 sqft house consist of two levels that both follow the terrain and float over it. The upper level is separted into two volumes, one containing the master suite and the second volume containing social areas are separated by a covered entry and sun terrace. Each of the two volumes are rotated to optimise views out towards the volcanoes. The lower level is embedded into the hillside, allowing the upper lever to cantilever out over the sloped ground. The distinct characters of the two levels are coded by the use of materials, stone for the lower embedded level and light timber frame construction for the upper level above.
