Saúl Zona 14 Canopy
"Material characteristics are used in this terrace cafe to heighten the viewer's experience of the natural environment."
“Bringing the Outside In” is something architects usually try to accomplish with glass and transparency. However, we find that using a variety of colors, textures, and patterns also achieves this result and even heightens ones sensation of the natural environment.
Ultimately the seemingly decorative effect is highly pragmatic. Made of 1000 pounds of thread hanging from a steel structure, the canopy acts as both a solar shade and sound absorbent surface which makes the space cool and intimate.
