“a fresh sense of tropical modernism” - Interior Design Magazine

Retail Store | 4,850 sf | Completed 2019 | Escazú, San Jose, Costa Rica

Designed for a locally owned-and-operated women’s clothing retailer in Escazú, the studio studio defines a complex composition of volumes with a warm, sorbet palette. The resulting building presents as a cohesive and playful stacking of boxes.

A renovation of an existing building, the studio added new concrete volumes to balance the existing agglomeration, including an exterior elevator core that anchors the building with a strong vertical element softened by a peach and yellow color gradient.

The interiors offer a laid-back palette of cool white and warm peaches and pinks, along with custom millwork and furnishings that present the objects inside in a vibrant rhythm and lend to a sense of discovery throughout. The bright colors draw inspiration from Latin architects and create a fresh tropical vibe that reflects the context of Costa Rica, the brand’s millennial clientele, and the merchandise itself.
