Zona 14 Menswear

Concept Store | Completed 2013 | Zone 14, Guatemala City

The exterior for this concept store takes inspiration from the sculptural openings and thick stucco walls of the area’s Spanish Colonial architectural heritage, reimagined here for a bold, modern impact. Molded fiberglass lays over the concrete block building, giving the impression that the entire project is shrink-wrapped. The protruding window frames press against an otherwise blank white canvas, with sculpted folds catching the light and drawing the eye in toward the display windows.

The exterior’s constrained appearance and eye-catching tension release into a light and airy interior, where skylights puncture the ceiling and polished concrete tile floors are interrupted only by the custom natural fiber area rugs accenting the display tables accenting the display tables. The concept store houses retail areas for clothing, home furnishings by local artists, and a gallery café.
