Hudson Square

Finalist: Care for Hudson Square | Site Activation | 22,000 sf | Proposal | New York City

The “Care for Hudson Square” initiative seeks to reactivate the public realm in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic with a site-specific installation that fosters community in the public realm.

Our design for the initiative enlivens the site at Little 6th Ave, between Spring and Broom Street, through striking but simple artistic intentions. Bright color traces the public routes along asphalt and sidewalks, supplemented with temporary shade tents, lighting, and seating to support the movement and activities of pedestrians and residents. This method of playful and bold site activation communicates the vibrancy and resilience of this location, reflecting the wealth of cultural and educational institutions in the area. The project aims to facilitate responsible social interactions, both planned and spontaneous, to help build engagement for other sites in the Hudson Square community both in person and virtually.
